20 things you probably didn't know about Masamori
A few of these are based off of things in canon, but most are headcanon.
1. He's a pretty good shogi player.
2. His favorite food is daifuku, but he likes and will eat large quantities of anything sweet.
3. The extent of his culinary abilities are making tea and prep work like cutting up vegetables (he used to do that for his father). He is somewhat hopeless at actually cooking anything that's not instant.
4. He has a desktop pc, but he has also developed a habit of borrowing Hatori's laptop during Night Troop meetings or on other occasions.
5. His cell phones tend to meet violent ends. It comes of carrying them around while fighting ayakashi.
6. He received the scar on his forehead during his first truly solo mission for the Shadow Organization. He worked a little more on dodging after that.
7. Unlike Yoshimori, who is considered odd by many of his peers, Masamori was friendly, smart, and helpful enough to be generally liked (though not popular) in school. He was that kid who wasn't really part of any group but pretty much everyone got along with. He was also that kid who almost always had something he had to do at home after school. (This is while he was actually attending school, the shikigami his grandfather made to take his place during the last years was a little different.)
8. He also used the great Sumimura technique of having a shikigami that looks like you attend class for you.
9. His grandfather instructed him in the techniques that allow a kekkaishi to summon a landlord (basically a familiar) before he left home, but didn't master them until afterwards.
10. He figured out zekkai on his own.
11. Ever since he left home, his father has sent him slightly ridiculous patterned scarves on special occasions. Masamori wears them frequently.
12. Of his family, he is closest to his father. (Followed by his youngest brother, Toshimori.)
13. He really wouldn't know what to do with himself without the Shadow Organization or something like it. As his grandfather has pointed out, Masamori has dedicated so much of his life to using magical power and dealing with the supernatural that he couldn't lead a normal life.
14. He dresseslike a monk traditionally because it makes him look older, which gives him a better chance of being taken seriously.
15. He frequently has a very thin kekkai covering his body. It's useless in an actual fight, but it does give him a little more of an element of surprise.
16. He drinks a few cups of tea a day. He doesn't like coffee, though.
17. His favorite color is blue.
18. He is slowly working himself to death. In spite of the slight running gag that is his massive sweet tooth, he steadily looses weight over the course of the series. He doesn't show it for the most part, but he is constantly pushing himself to his absolute limit trying to get as much done himself as he possibly can, and it's taking its toll. (And that's not even getting into some of the crazy, Magnificent Bastard risk-taking.)
19. If you define "friend" as "someone you share your hopes and fears with" or "someone you call up with no ulterior motive other than the desire to talk" then Masamori does not have friends. He has family, and adopted family, and he will protect them to the death, but that's different. (note: this is changing a little in DDD. a little.)
20. He's fairly self-aware about a decent number of his issues, it's just that he doesn't quite have the strength or willingness to move past them (yet). For example, he knows that he has an inferiority complex about Yoshimori being the legitimate successor, and that he compensates with a somewhat excessive amount of pride. But there are other things he's less self-aware about. He doesn't recognize the way he blames himself for things that go wrong near him as an issue, because...obviously it is his fault, and he should be blamed.
